Product Care
We take pride in offering the highest quality Menorcan sandals crafted with premium leather and hand assembled materials. To ensure your Ria Menorca shoes remain in exceptional condition for years to come, it’s important to care for them properly. This guide provides practical steps specific to the materials used in our products.
Understanding Your Materials
Ria Menorca shoes are handmade in Spain using materials selected for comfort, durability and breathability. Many styles feature:
-
Premium leather uppers and linings
-
Leather insoles and linings
-
Natural jute, cork and recycled rubber soles
Each material responds differently to wear and environmental conditions, so it’s helpful to follow care instructions based on the specific type of shoe you own.
Shoe Care Best Practices
Keep Them Dry and Clean
-
When cleaning any shoe make sure not to use excess water or liquids. Only use dry cloths
-
If your shoes do get wet, allow them to air-dry at room temperature, away from direct heat and direct sunlight.
Picasso/Bovine Leather: A traditional, high-quality leather commonly used in saddlery.
-
Clean with a soft, dry cloth
-
If relevant, only rub a small amount of neutral leather safe cream/polish to moisturise the leather. Apply the cream over the entire surface to avoid contrasting colours
-
Store away from direct heat and sunlight
Velvet Leather: A sealed leather with an extremely soft surface.
-
Wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth
Suede/Nubuck: Soft, textured leathers requiring protective care.
-
If applying sprays make sure to use suede-safe water and stain repellent sprays only
-
Use a soft suede brush or a pencil eraser to gently remove dirt
Metallic Leathers: Leather with a decorative metallic surface finish.
-
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth
-
Do not use leather creams, conditioners, or sprays
Glitter Shoes: Decorative surface with a bonded glitter finish.
-
Clean gently with a gentle soft brush
-
Do not rub, soak, or use cleaners or sprays
Jute Material: Natural fibre commonly used in espadrille soles.
-
Avoid getting wet as jute absorbs moisture and will weaken
-
If damp, dry in a well-ventilated room at normal temperature
Breaking In Leather
Leather is a natural material that responds to the shape and movement of your foot. When you first receive your Ria Menorca shoes, it’s normal for them to feel slightly snug or firm at first.
Over the first few wears, the leather will soften and stretch gently, forming a more personalised fit that aligns with your foot’s unique shape. Please note the stretching will only occur at the front of the shoe since our slingback is internally reinforced to hold its original position and shape.
For the best break-in process wear your shoes around the house for short intervals initially.
If you have specific questions about caring for a particular style or material from our range please contact us through our email hello@riamenorcaaustralia.com.au or fill out the form on our contact page. We’re happy to help.
